Vaccination Safety

Several risk factors are considered in the choice of vaccine selection. Some of these factors include the following:

How to Ensure You Get the Real COVID Vaccine

There are a low supply and high demand for Covid-19 vaccines, so some scammers are taking advantage of the situation by pushing fake ones.

Unfortunately, there’s no difference between an approved corona vaccine and any other clear liquid to the naked eyes. Even health professionals can’t test if a vaccine contains the authentic ingredient or not

Manufacturing and Logistics:

There are approved manufacturers for the Coronavirus vaccines like Pfitzer, BioNTech, AstraZeneca, and Moderna. The authentic vaccines go through strict supervision and rigorous testing before administration.

However, some are transporting the real vaccines through illicit channels, which compromises the vaccine’s quality. For instance, the Pfitzer vaccines have a low shelf life, and substandard supply chains can give vaccines way past their expiration dates.Also, corona vaccines require complicated storage methods to retain their quality.

They have to be in extremely cold freezers and set to a very low temperature. Illicit suppliers will find it challenging to keep to the storage requirements, thus causing the vaccines’ degradation.

In summary, scammers can manipulate a vaccine, or the quality of a real vaccine can get compromised.

Either way, here are some things to look out for to avoid being a victim of a fake vaccine:

  • Make sure you do not buy from online stores or through the internet
  • Ignore texts, calls, or ads about covid vaccines
  • Ensure the vaccine is in a sealed container. Broken seals may indicate tampering or dilution
  • Consult licensed professional and authorized facility to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine
  • Avoid unapproved centers, just because it feels like convenient “Covid vaccine near me”

An unauthorized vaccine could harm a person if it contains contaminated liquid. Even if it doesn’t cause harm, it won’t protect you against COVID-19.

Safety During Vaccination

Asides from figuring out where and how to get the COVID 19 vaccine which is authentic, it’s also vital to ensure safety during coronavirusvaccination. The covid vaccine should be administered under intense safety monitoring and practices.

Below are some safety measures;

  • Get the vaccine at your scheduled appointment and center
  • Avoid close contacts, avoid queues and keep distance between yourself and others
  • Wear face coverings or masks before and during your appointment, ideally a FFP2 standard mask
  • Wash or sanitize your hand
  • Report any allergic or health issue you currently experience
  • Don’t miss the 2nd shot. Covid vaccines in use require two doses to seal their effectiveness. 2nd doses are usually within 3- 4 weeks after the first dose.
  • Collect documentation of your vaccination
  • Follow your physician advice

Also, we advise you to take safety precautions after getting the vaccine. It is still unclear how long the immunity lasts or if a vaccinated individual could be a carrier of the virus and spread it around even if the person doesn’t become sick.

More information about immunity will emerge during the post-trial stage. Before then, don’t disregard safety measures like wearing a mask and social distancing, at least until the virus is under control. While the risk of getting the virus is low after getting the covid vaccine, it’s possible.

Management of Anaphylactic Reactions During Coronavirus Vaccination

There have been reports of a severe allergic reaction, Anaphylaxis, in some vaccines like the Pfister-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines. About 21 cases of anaphylactic reactions were recorded after the administration of the first 1.8 million doses. The majority of the anaphylaxis reaction occurred within 30 minutes of administering the vaccine.

Of the 21 patients, 5 were food allergic, 3 had drug allergies, 12 were from previous allergic reactions to medications or vaccines, and 1 was an environmental allergy.

Anaphylaxis reactions require immediate treatment, and the following safety measures should be applied to avoid or manage reactions;

  • Individuals with a severe allergic reaction to any of the ingredients present in the mRNA vaccine should not get the available mRNA vaccines
  • If an anaphylactic reaction occurs during administration of the first dose, it is recommended you don’t get the 2nd dose.
  • If you’ve had allergic reactions to other types of vaccines, then the follow-up period should be 30minutes after Covid vaccine administration
  • If you have allergic reactions not related to vaccines but other things like cosmetics, food, pets, and latex. You may get vaccinated but stay for monitoring

Also, vaccination centers must prepare for the possibility of allergic reactions. The following safeguard should be in place during immunization;

  • Everyone should be monitored for 15 minutes on site after getting the covid-vaccine. The minutes should extend to 30 minutes in patients who have had allergic reactions to other types of vaccines or injections
  • Vaccination centers must be equipped with appropriate medications and equipment. These include Epipens, stethoscopes, epinephrine, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, and others. They monitor and manage allergic reactions.
  • Any severe allergic reaction must be treated immediately. The individual should be in a medical facility with strict monitoring for several hours before discharge

Other side effects may include pain, swelling, fever, headache, tiredness.  It’s vital to rest after vaccine administration and talk to your physician before taking drugs for any pain or side effects.

***

So far, the Covidvaccine offers maximum protection against Coronavirus. However, Fake Vaccines are out here, so it’s important to stay vigilant. Minor side effects like pains should be expected, but severe side effects like anaphylactic reaction should be treated immediately.
